Parents Step Ahead announces the appointment of Gwen Craig to its Board of Directors. The Board of Directors consists of a diverse group of people that want to make a difference in the community by empowering parents with the tools necessary for the development of their children.
“Parents Step Ahead is honored to be able to work with people such as Gwen Craig, whom will contribute to our mission more than 20 years of experience in the educational system,” said Lupita Colmenero, Founder and Director of Parents Step Ahead. “Her knowledge, skills and experience will be an invaluable resource to our mission.”
Gwen Craig is a graduate of Irving High School and she and her husband Larry have lived in Irving for the past 26 years. All three of their children are Irving graduates. Gwen is the grandmother of 14. Children are important to her and she enjoys spending time reading to first graders at two of the Irving schools on a regular basis. She has been honored as a Life Member of Texas PTA and has always supported PTA both as a parent and a teacher.
Gwen earned her Associate of Arts degree from Mountain View Community College in Office Skills and went on to the University of North Texas and earned Bachelor of Arts in Vocational Education and Master of Education degrees. Gwen has a total of 20 years experience in public education, three as a teacher’s assistant, eight as a teacher, and nine as a school counselor.
Gwen realized that it was important to be involved in her profession and served as local secretary, treasurer, vice president and president in Irving Association of Texas Professional Educators (ATPE). Gwen also served as secretary, vice-president, and president in the Region ATPE.
Gwen served on the Irving ISD Board of Trustees for three years and was elected as vice-president of the board 2012-2013. Currently, Gwen serves as the Vice-President of Irving Retired School Personnel Association which is the local organization for Texas Retired Teachers Association. Gwen is also currently a member of the Board of Directors for the Irving Schools Foundation.
Gwen realizes the importance of parents being a partner in the education of their children and strives to support not only the children in Irving ISD, but the parents as well.
