Arlington, TX – Arlington ISD hosted its second annual Parent University at James & Barbara Adams Elementary School this past Saturday, May 2nd. The event was centered with a theme to connect parents with “Summer Resources.”
“Fundamentally it’s to empower the parents and empower them to access the information and to be advocates for their children.” said Arlington ISD Superintendent Dr. Marcelo Cavazos, “We know that when parents are engaged and more importantly when they are empowered with information, they can truly assistant their children to be successful.”
Parents were fed a continental breakfast and given the opportunity to browse through the Arlington ISD Summer Camp Resource Fair, which included organizations such as; Boys and Girls Club of Arlington, Girl Scouts of Texas, YMCA of Arlington, Salvation Army and many more
“As we’re coming down to the end of the school year we want to make sure that our students and families are still connected with resources out in the community, not just with the school district but also in the supporting community around us” said Director of Parent and Community Engagement, Aaron Perales.
Workshops were also offered with topics ranging from Health & Wellness, Financial Literacy, Praising Your Children and a variety of more all connected to maintaining summer learning.
