Seminar topics will include: “Parenting with Love & Logic,” “Internet Safety and Social Cruelty,” and “Importance of Parental Involvement .”

“Parenting with Love & Logic,” focuses on the importance of understanding and empathizing within your family. Gloria Garcia of Mountain View College will be presenting this topic. Ms. Garcia has a Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies Degree with Minor in Bilingual Education from TWU, Masters of Bilingual Education with a minor in Anthropology from SMU and a Principal Certification from UNT. Currently she is a Curriculum and Instruction Doctoral Candidate at UNT with minor in Higher Education and Emphasis in Technology. She teaches Spanish at Tyler Street in Dallas.

“Internet Safety and Social Cruelty,” will talk about the dangers in new social media and the internet and how to keep our kids safe presented by Ellen White of YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas in partnership with the Dallas Children’s Advocacy Center. Ms. White is a Licensed Master Social Worker currently serving as the Child Protection Specialist for the YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas. She heads up the Child Abuse Prevention Committee and initiatives, assists with writing and implementing child protection policies, audits, assessments, and staff training.

“Importance of Parental Involvement,” will be Presented by Maurice Walker, Parent Involvement Coordinator for Irving ISD. This will discuss the importance of understanding the school system of your children, and ultimately identifying a way to help your student get to college, due to the school and parental involvement. Since earning his BA degree, Mr. Walker has worked as a seventh grade Language Arts/Social Studies teacher, counselor and wrestling coach in North Chicago, Illinois; earned a Master of Science in Education (Counseling & Guidance) from Western Illinois University, Administrative Certification from Texas Woman’s University, served as principal in both the Irving and Dallas Independent School Districts, and presently is assigned as a Coordinator of Parent Involvement in the Irving ISD.
